For foreign Bachelor’s Degree, not recognised by the Association of Indian Universities, proper certification by a National Body constituted in the country concerned for granting equivalence will have to

l B.E. / B.Tech. (Textiles / Apparel / Mechanical / Industrial / Production /Electronics / Computer / Information Technology)
IMPORTANT NOTE
Candidates appearing for their qualifying examinations can also apply. Their admission, however, will be provisional and subject to obtaining the defined eligibility by 30th June, 2007. Proof of the candidates having successfully passed the qualifying examination will have to be produced at the time of joining the programme. In case, candidates do not produce the required documents by 30th June, 2007, their admission will be cancelled and 50% of the tuition fee will be refunded.
Non fulfilment of the above conditions will automatically result in the
cancellation of the provisional admission.
RESERVATION OF SEATS
The seats reserved for SC / ST / Physically Handicapped Candidates (PHP) / Foreign Nationals / SAARC / NRI, in each programme are as under:

The qualifying candidates need to meet the eligibility and admission requirements of NIFT.
Requirements of each category are as follows:
SC/ST CANDIDATES
Candidates applying under this reserved quota would have to produce a Caste/Tribe certificate from the Competent Authorities of the respective States/Union Territories/National Commission of Tribes.
PHP CANDIDATES
Candidates seeking admission under physically handicapped quota must produce a Disability Certificate issued by the Medical Board attached with the Vocational Rehabilitation Centre (VRC) working under the Ministry of Labour, Govt. of India, certifying their disability as 40% or more.(See list of VRC on page 44)
NIFT reserves the right to disqualify the candidature in case of inability of the candidate to perform for a particular programme.
In addition, the Government of India has proposed to reserve seats for candidates belonging to Other Backward Class (OBC), the details of which would be announced through an advertisement in national newspapers by NIFT on receipt of an official communication from the appropriate authority.
If you happen to belong to Other Backward Class, you need to produce an original certificate alongwith a certified copy issued by a competent authority at the time of Admission Counselling.
FOREIGN NATIONALS / SAARC / NRI
Fifteen percent (15%) of total seats on supernumerary basis in each discipline are reserved for admission of Foreign Nationals whether residing in India or abroad, applicants from SAARC countries and Non Resident Indian as specified in the Income Tax Act, 1961. The admission to NIFT programmes for foreign nationals / SAARC / NRI candidates will be based only on the written examination. The written examination of the candidates applying under this category is normally conducted in the premises of the Indian Embassy / Mission of the respective country.
The candidates selected under this quota will be required to pay US$ 6500 as Fee for each academic year consisting of two semesters and would need to obtain a valid residential permit or student visa for the prescribed duration of the programme.
Procedure for applying under foreign nationals / SAARC / NRI category:
l Candidates seeking admission under this category should apply in the prescribed Application Form.
l The duly filled in Application should accompany the following documents:
1) An attested copy of the relevant pages of the passport containing
details of the applicant.
2) An attested copy of proof of status of NRI / SAARC / foreign national.
3) A Demand Draft of US$ 70 in favour of NIFT, New Delhi payable
at New Delhi.

All eligible candidates will have to appear for a written entrance examination at the Examination Centres opted by them. The written entrance examination is designed to test the knowledge, skill and aptitude of the candidates for the
programme opted.
The objective type tests are not subject to negative marking.
The written entrance examination will be conducted on 11th February, 2007 at the cities mentioned in the table.
The candidate has to select only ONE city for the examination. The candidate should write the two-digit Exam Centre Code on the OMR (Optical Marker Reader) Application Form at item no 11, and shade the corresponding oval below each digit.
Candidates are cautioned to fill this Code and shade correctly as the allotment of the required Examination Centre will be based on this information only.
Please note that NIFT reserves the right to cancel any of the Examination Centres mentioned. In such case, alternate centre which is administratively convenient will be allotted.

The result of the written entrance examination will be displayed at all NIFT Centres and on the NIFT website in the month of March 2007. Shortlisted candidates will also be informed separately by registered post about the dates of subsequent tests. Maximum number of candidates called for interview is three times the number of the seats in the programme. All those called for the second phase are required to attend Situation Test/Interview/Group Discussion as the case may be, which completes the process of
selection.
IMPORTANT
The candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfil all the eligibility criteria for admission to the examination. Their admission at all the stages of the examination for which they are admitted by NIFT viz. Written Test, Situation Test, Psychometric Test, Group Discussion and Interview (as the case may be) will be purely provisional, subject to their satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions. If on verification at any time before or after the Written Test, Situation Test, Psychometric Test, Group Discussion and Interview (as the case may be), it is found that candidate does not fulfil any eligibility criteria, his/her candidature for the examination shall stand cancelled without any notice or further reference.

On the basis of information given in the NIFT Application Form, Admit Card of provisionally eligible candidates will be issued so that the provisionally eligible candidates will receive their admit cards by the end of
January 2007.
Admit Cards of provisionally eligible candidates will also be uploaded on the NIFT website
www.niftindia.com on 31st January 2007. In case of non-receipt of Admit Cards, the candidates are required to download the
Admit Card from the NIFT website www.niftindia.com on or after
31st January 2007.
The candidates are required to affix their photograph (similar to that affixed on the Application Form) on the downloaded Admit Card and get it attested for producing at the Examination Centre.
Candidate without the admit card or without the photograph on the downloaded admit card will NOT be permitted to appear in the written entrance examination.

2.
The admission to a programme is based
strictly on merit as obtained in the entrance examination and
the seats in the programmes would be offered as per the merit
during the counseling.
3.
Successful candidates eligible for
admission will be required to attend the counseling session on
a specified date and time at their own expense at NIFT Campus,
New
Delhi
.
The schedule of the counseling for final allotment of
courses would be displayed on the NIFT web site www.niftindia.com.
Candidates will also be invited through individual
communication. Candidates
whose names appear in the list put on the website but have not
received the invitation for counseling should also appear for
counseling on the counseling date(s) notified.
4.
If the candidate remains absent on the date
and time specified for the counseling session or does not
deposit the fee through Bank Demand Draft, the candidature
will be cancelled and the next candidate in the final merit
will be called immediately.
5.
A candidate who reports later than the date
and time when his/her rank in the merit list required him/her
to do so, he/she will be considered for admission against the
seats that are available at that point of time in various
programmes at other NIFT centres.
He/ she will not be eligible and will not be considered
against a seat that would have ordinarily gone to him/her on
the basis of merit.
6.
The candidate are advised to join the
programme offered at the allotted study centre within ten days
of commencement of the programme, failing which, their
admission will stand cancelled without any
intimation and the tuition fee paid shall be forfeited.
The vacant seat shall be offered to the waitlisted
candidates in the order of merit.
7.
The medium of instruction in NIFT and of
the entrance examination is English.
8.
NIFT does not recommend any coaching
classes.
9.
Any attempt to influence the admission
process by way of recommendation will invite disqualification
of the candidates.
10.
Any dispute arising out of admission would
be under the jurisdiction of Delhi Courts.
11.
NIFT reserves the right to add or
discontinue any programme at any centre.

SITUATION TEST
Shortlisted candidates from the written entrance examination are required to undergo a Situation Test which is a hands-on test to evaluate the candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials.
