NIFT
was accorded the statutory status to award its own degree by
an act of parliament in 2006, placing it on the same pedestal
as the IIT's and AIIMS. With this act, NIFT has perhaps become
the only 'Fashion Institute' in the world to award its own
unique degrees.
NIFT's structure and curriculum has in fact got updated
completely in the process. All our undergraduate programs are
now of 4 year duration including a 1 year of uniquely crafted
foundation program which provides students of all streams with
an overview of fashion business. The curriculum envisions an
intense and dynamic interaction between the industry and
academics, providing an insight into and appreciation of
business.
The second batch of the restructured programs shall be
graduating in 2008 through a centrally administered placement,
in January, whereby companies will have an opportunity to
select candidates across all centers without much traveling.
Students of Masters (Apparel Production, Fashion
Management) and Bachelor programmes (Fashion Design, Leather
Design, Knitwear Design, Textile Design, Communication Design,
Accessory Design, Apparel Production) will be offered
for placement.
